REDISCOVERING CINEMA

Although for some people cinema means something superficial and glamorous, it is something else. I think it is the mirror of the world

These are the words of Jeanne Moreau, the French actress who bagged the best actress award for her role in ‘The Old Lady Who Walked The Sea” in the César Awards of 1992. According to her cinema is a reflection of the life of the people. Modern day audience is generally made  up of people who watch movies for entertainment. The modern audience is driven to the theatres in order to quench their thirst for entertainment and to take a break from their increasingly stressful life. They have forgotten the main purpose of ‘cinema’. The primary purpose of cinema was not to act as a source of entertainment but to provide a reflection of the society and to illuminate the nuances and subtleties of various minds living in the society. Cinema is not only a recreational tool; it’s a symphony, a beautiful piece of art where the colors are the perspectives of different human beings. Cinema is a beautiful depiction of people, their cultures, ideas, mentalities, perspectives and the beautiful variances of the human mind. Cinema is not an art which films life; cinema is between art and life.
